The Nuga Sevana Open Air Theatre / Aal Nilal Thiranda Veli Arangam, is located around the roots of the majestic Banyan Tree at the Premises of the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07
The objective of the Nuga Sevana Theatre is to encourage cultural, musical, theatrical and edu-cational programmes and workshops in a natu¬ral, healthy, and welcoming environment; and at affordable rates.
The stage of the Theatre is spacious and circular; and built out of durable timber. Roots that descend from the majestic Banyan tree have been protected and preserved and form part of the backdrop. The lighting from the base of the stage illuminates the Banyan tree. There is provision for additional lighting and sound as well. The boundary wall on the east side of the theatre bordering Sarana Mawatha has been raised to enhance a sound proof environment.
Concrete tiers embrace the stage providing easy seating facilities for approximately two hundred and fifty persons. The space between the stage and tiers provides for ground seating for another two hundred. The adjoining Resource Centre provides toilet and changing room facilities for cast/performers.
There is parking space for approximately one hundred vehicles and toilet facilities for visitors as well. Vehicular access is from Bauddhaloka Mawatha while those using public transport could also use the Sarana Mawatha entrance.
