In the aftermath of the devastating flood in Sri Lanka, people in affected areas were requesting for medical assistance. The Board of Social Responsibility along with numerous volunteers were assisting in all stages of the conflict and responding to the requirements of the people.
In response to the need for medical care we were fortunate to have the assistance of a Team of Medical Professionals and Clergy from ACROSS, Singapore. The team comprised of 1 Doctor, 1 Nurse, 1 Pharmacist, 2 Clergy, 1 official and 4 helpers.
The first camp was held on the 30th of June 2017 at Ratnapura , Dirananda and the Karangoda Sri Sumana Viharaya. The Buddhist Monk of the area welcomed this initiative and was very helpful and appreciated the work which helped the community. This camp was run by two Doctors, one Nursing Sister and two nurses formed the medical team. They were ably assisted by two Pharmacists and 5 helpers.
The 2nd Camp was held at St John the Baptist Anglican Church at Rakwana on the 1st of July 2017. We were able to provide medication for 210 people who came. The medical Team comprised of 3 Doctors, 1 Nursing Sister, 2 Nurses, 5 Pharmacists and 8 helpers.
The 3rd Camp was at Kiribathgala, Vatapatha, Maha Vidiyala at Nivithigala on the 2nd of July.
We were able to provide medication for 155 people who came.
The supporting staff comprised of 2 Doctors, 1 Nursing Sister, 2 Nurses, 6 Pharmacists and 10 helpers.
The ACROSS also assisted during 2016 floods with financial support and medical camps carried out in Western regions. We greatly appreciate and thank them for the continuous support to assist the victims of disasters.
