DIOCESAN COUNCIL COLOMBO 2022

STATEMENT ON CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION

The Diocese of Colombo discussed the current political situation at its Annual Sessions held on 27^th, 28^th & 29^th October 2022.

It noted with concern that, despite a change in the person occupying the position of the Executive President, little had changed in the politics of the country despite the widespread support for many of the demands of the Aragalaya/protest movement.

137th Annual Diocesan Council Sessions commenced today (27th October 2022) at the Diocesan Council Chamber.

Proceedings of the Day 01 started with the Evensong held at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour Colombo 07.

Priests and a large number of lay representatives representing various churches participated in the opening session and the Rt. Revd. Keerthisiri Fernando the Vicar General of Diocese of Kurunegala, and his wife Mrs. Arlene McShane participated as chief guests.

A Special Program for Youth at Christ Church Hambanthota

On Sunday the 23rd of October 2022, the Galle deanery visited and organized a special program for the youths at Christ Church Hambantota! They were able to participate in the Sunday service, also the youths and committee members took various parts of the service while the sermon was done by the chaplain. Later, a program was organized for the youths with an introduction about the CCYM, some fun games and bible study session. On the whole it was a fruitful Sunday for the youths.

The 137th Diocesan Council Sessions will be held from the 27th to 29th of October 2022, at the Diocesan Council Chamber Colombo 07.

The Theme for this year is “I have observed the misery of my people, I have heard their cry, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them” Exodus 3: 7 & 8

This year's Diocesan Council sessions will be special as the sessions in person after a lapse of two years.The chief guest will be Rt. Revd. Keerthisiri Fernando, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kurunegala, and his wife Mrs. Arlene McShane.
